Sometimes we will complain that nothing ever changes or that we need to get away or escape our lives.
But the pattern will continue…
We will come up with timely excuses as to why this is not a good time to get away or why we should abide by our routine. Or we might even convince ourselves that by changing one small aspect or our routine such as altering the time of day for a particular activity is like a fresh start. Well, perhaps, but could also be setting ourselves up for this same old pattern.
So, why do we get stuck in a pattern and resist changing it?
When life becomes more about responsibilities and balancing schedules, it is evident that routines can keep us going.
But why do we get so attached to the schedule?
My guess is we want other things – family, stability, housing, income, etc.
A schedule will certainly help keep those afloat or even possible.
And there is nothing wrong with wanting the above. It is happiness for many where for others it is the opposite.
No matter which category you fit, patterns naturally develop.
If you find your patterns are preventing you from living, start paying attention to what you are resisting. If you find more of your energy going toward rushing and never getting to where you think you want to be, you might be too attached to your pattern and stuck in resisting anything new.
Many of us become dependent on others or on society making changes for us – making the decision on our own is too scary and unknown.
We get caught up in our fear of uncertainties.
But who cares?
I mean really, how is holding onto patterns and resisting anything that might be different benefitting us?
Sure, likely things have gone okay with this routine so far, so why change it…
But, what about what you don’t know?
What about all those lingering what if’s that play in your mind?
Resisting something out of fear or discomfort denies us of living a life of freedom. This is a freedom from resisting and creates confidence to trust and know what it is that we want.
